Proton therapy for childhood cancer

For proton therapy children with cancer presently have to go abroad. A few years ago the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport gave a licence to three centres for the construction of a proton therapy centre. Treating pediatric cancer patients is only permitted in a centre which is hospital-based. Next year three centres are expected to start proton therapy. At the request of the Minister a special Committee will assess whether the hospital-based criterion should still apply.
