European primary care

Wie in Nederland een gezondheidsprobleem krijgt, neemt om te beginnen contact op met een eerstelijns hulpverlener, meestal een huisarts, maar soms ook een verpleegkundige of fysiotherapeut. Die verwijst dan eventueel door. In andere Europese landen kan de route van hulpvraag naar hulp heel anders zijn, met een minder prominente rol voor de eerste lijn. Welke invloed heeft de eerstelijnszorg op de kwaliteit en doelmatigheid van de gezondheidszorg? En in welke richting zou de Europese eerstelijnszorg zich moeten ontwikkelen? Een sterke eerstelijnszorg blijkt gunstig. Die in Europees verband verder uitbouwen is dan ook aan te bevelen. Dit stelt de Gezondheidsraad in een advies dat vandaag wordt aangeboden aan de minister van Volksgezondheid, Welzijn en Sport.
