The Netherlands Centre for Ethics and Health (CEG)

The Centre for Ethics and Health was established on 16 May 2003. The CEG is a joint venture of the Health Council of the Netherlands and the Council for Public Health and Healthcare (RVZ).

The Centre’s main task is to identify developments that could be of relevance to public health from an ethical perspective. Each of the two Councils does this in its own field. The Standing Committee on Health Ethics and Health Law acts as the committee for the relevant monitoring reports to be drawn up by the Health Council. These monitoring reports serve as building blocks for the Agenda on Ethics and Health, which the Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport contributes annually to the national budget.

The Centre also serves as an information desk on ethical issues in the field of public health. This function is carried out by the RVZ. The website (www.ceg.nl) contains background information and links.
